Structured Cabling Preventative Maintenance (PM)
When an installation of a structured cabling system is complete, it is completely certified tested and records are supplied to the client on completion. This provides the client and Matrix with proof that the system installed was 100% tested and passed all tests on completion of the installation process in line with the relevant test standards at time of install. There is little to suggest from our previous experience on larger or small sites that the integrity of the installed cabling diminishes over time in a standard office environment.
So Why have PM?
In all systems that we have installed since 1993, we notice that cabinets, wiring closets or patch frame etc becomes untidy and as time goes on this gets worse and worse. Patching schedules that were so exact following initial install quickly become obsolete. The spider’s nest which is so often refers to the cabinet or patching frame becomes impossible to manage in an efficient manner. The reason for this is quiet simple. IT staff are requested to relocate a number of machines a number of times during a year and always time is of the essence. They relocate the machines quickly change around the patch leads at the cabinet/frame and start testing that the machines can again access the network, is printing OK etc.
Matrix Structured Cabling PM service
Matrix provide engineers to site who will in very quick time, update patching schedules, re-patch cabinets/frames, and carry out a small % test on the structured cabling points. Allowing IT departments to carry on they’re busy schedules. Depending on the size of your site this may be done monthly, yearly or bi-annually.
ETCI National Rules for Electrical Installations (Third Edition) ET 101:2008, Amendments to Feb 2015, Chapter 62 states “It is recommended that the installation be inspected and tested periodically as appropriate to the use and environment to ensure that it still complies with these rules.”
Health & Safety Regulation, S.I. No. 299/2007 Safety Health and Welfare at work (General Application) Regulations. was signed into law in Ireland, and states that all companies and persons responsible for health, safety and welfare have been legally obliged to have all electrical appliances and installations regularly checked – and the records kept for five years.

For Clients with multiple branch locations Matrix can provide full scheduled programmed visits to carry out UPS and Generator Set tests in conjunction with a host of other services which can be carried out at the same time. This saves the client additional costs of having multiple contractors attending site.
